Web Hosting - Go For Free Hosting

by Tem Balanco

If you are going to be building a web site for the first time and you are looking for a web host, you may want to consider that many companies provide free hosting services. With your web hosting company, you have the option of either selecting your domain or you can craft your open sub domain.

For someone who is just starting out with their first website, it is nice that they will not have to spend any money to get started. Free web hosting will provide you with a free file in addition to free image hosting. The drawback is that there are restrictions on how large an uploaded file can be.

How can these companies provide free web hosting? The answer is simple. These companies put classified ads on your web site either at the top of the page or bottom or it may be anywhere in your page. They obtain money from the clicks produced from the advertisements on your site. Many of these hosts offer pop up advertising which is at times actually irritating to the users. This is the way they earn money.

You may want to keep in mind a few possible limitations if you are thinking about signing up for a free web hosting account. It can take anywhere from an hour to a week to get the account set up and activated. These days almost all companies that provide free hosting will check new account information by hand, which may take a bit longer.

Because the service is free, there isn't PHP, ASP or MySql support. Also, the number of email and FTP accounts is limited. In addition, you'll find that many hosts will not allow you to add additional domains to your current account.

Not all uploaded file formats are accepted. For security reasons, even common formats like zip files are not allowed. Use Google or your favorite search engine to find a free web host that will give you the features you need.

A paid hosting company is an alternative to consider if you are dissatisfied using a free hosting service. Paid hosting companies provide personal service and increased support for their customers. However, a change to a paid hosting service is really only required if you are unhappy with your current free hosting service.

Many web hosting companies provide free hosting services. Those of us who are going to build web sites for the first time may start an account in any of the free hosting web sites.
